Personal website
Last time, I said I would either merge the next feature branch or write a post about it in a week.
It has been more than a week.
The purpose of the deadline was to get me to stop procrastinating merging finished features. That has been an issue for most of Froggum’s recent development, along with having difficulty making myself work on it at all. I specifically set the deadline to be: merge if it’s finished, write about it if it’s not, so I would have no excuse not to do something the next week.
Turns out, there was another alternative: be reasonably sure that I could finish it that day, thus allowing me to merge instead of post, then not manage to do either.
Missing the deadline turned out to be even worse for my motivation, so very little development has happened in the last nine months since the deadline passed.
Part 1: I now have a dedicated space for being productive, whether that is working on Froggum, remote work, or other productive things.
Part 2: I got a new laptop for working, which is permanently set in my productive space.
Part 3: Weekly progress updates.
In the past, posts have been mostly focused on finishing old features and planning new ones. I will continue to do those posts, as they are very helpful in making Froggum actually work, and in determining when a feature is done. In addition to those posts, there will be a weekly post describing what happened that week in development, or something else interesting if no development happened. These will be posted every Saturday, whether or not a new feature was implemented that week, thus avoiding the issue of avoiding it by finishing a feature.
Items implemented from the last checklist:
Setting tolerance for grid snapping is in progress. I started it a few months ago, and a setting exists, but I haven’t made a good visual for it yet or verified that it matches. I also seem to have messed up the hover detection, which is highlighting things in the wrong places now. Still, since this is the last item on the list, this should be merged in the next week. I will post next week even if it isn’t finished.
